Strengthening Institutions funding will support student success, campus facilities

QUEENSBURY, NY — SUNY Adirondack was awarded a $3 million U.S. Department of Labor Title III Strengthening Institutions grant to support strategic investments in student success, academic innovation, workforce development and campus facilities.

“This grant is a significant investment in SUNY Adirondack and, most important, our students,” said Anastasia L. Urtz, J.D., president of SUNY Adirondack. “This incredible opportunity will allow us to make immediate progress on priorities outlined in Rooted and Rising, our new strategic plan built on ideas developed through conversations with faculty, staff, students, business leaders and community members.”

Title III grants are awarded by the U.S. Department of Labor to help eligible institutions serving significant numbers of low-income students to spur innovation and strengthen internal systems to improve student outcomes.  

Projects at SUNY Adirondack supported by this grant will include:

• Updates to the Humanities Building and Adirondack Hall, and purchase of state-of-the art equipment to establish classroom and lab spaces for allied health/emergency management and biotechnology program development; 
• Faculty professional development on teaching methods that support today's learners; 
• National expert consultation on student retention and success strategies; 
• Implementation of process efficiency strategies, including an AI-supported transcript reader to facilitate the student admissions process; 
• Support for faculty pursuing innovative strategies in developmental English and mathematics; 
• Collaboration with Warren County Career Services One-Stop to support student career development and employer engagement; and 
• Administration of the Community College Survey of Student Engagement

The grant also will double the size and impact of the Duffy Fund, established in honor of former SUNY Adirondack President Kristine D. Duffy, Ed.D., which will grow from $200,000 to $400,000 to support student success work at the institution.
