FORT EDWARD, N.Y. - Habitat for Humanity of Northern Saratoga, Warren, and Washington Counties has appointed Sharon Horton as its new Executive Director, bringing new energy, proven leadership, and a powerful personal connection to Habitat’s mission.
“With 24 years of collaboration focused on strengthening Northern Saratoga, Warren, and Washington counties, we know our future depends on strong, inspired leadership,” said Mike Doud, President of the Board. “Sharon brings exceptional nonprofit expertise, and a heart aligned with our mission. She’s exactly the kind of leader who will lift our work to new heights.”
Sharon joins Habitat for Humanity with an impressive and heartfelt career journey bridging both the nonprofit and for-profit sectors. From leading a state chapter of NAMI with steadfast commitment to compassionate, mission-driven governance, to spearheading large-scale fundraising initiatives for the American Heart Association and the American Cancer Society, Sharon has consistently mobilized communities around causes that matter.
Sharon’s own path to homeownership highlights the transformative impact that safe, affordable housing can have on a person’s life. “Having the opportunity to purchase my first home on my own, as a single mom with three children, marked more than a fresh start-it opened doors to independence, stability, and the chance to shape a new future from the ground up,” she shares. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to lead this organization as we empower individuals to turn their vision into reality—breaking the cycle of poverty and building generational wealth through homeownership, all while laying the foundation for lasting legacies.“
A longtime resident of the Adirondack foothills, Sharon finds renewal in the region’s mountains and waterways. She is deeply connected to her extended family, three children, three grandchildren, and the close-knit circle of friends she affectionately calls her 'tribe.' Her life and leadership embody the profound impact of gratitude, authentic connection, and a deep sense of belonging - the foundation for transforming lives and building stronger, more resilient communities.
