Cornell CLIMATE STEWARDS Program Seeks Volunteers Across New York State for Virtual Training beginning September 10th.

Ballston Spa, NY — Cornell Climate Stewards, a statewide virtual volunteer training program offered through Cornell Cooperative Extension, is seeking individuals interested in learning about climate science and taking action to address climate-related issues in their communities.

Modeled after other successful Extension volunteer programs, Cornell Climate Stewards provides participants with the knowledge and tools to better understand climate change, extreme weather events, warming temperatures, and other challenges affecting communities across New York State.

After completing the live online training, volunteers can work with municipalities on local climate resilience task forces or develop their own projects to address climate-related concerns in their communities. The program offers participants the opportunity to turn their knowledge into meaningful local action—the possibilities are endless.

More than 100 Climate Stewards and educators in over 25 counties across New York State are already participating in the program.

There is no cost to participate, instead trainees are asked to complete 40 hours of volunteer service each year they remain a Climate Steward. The next training session begins Thursday, September 10, and runs through December 3. Classes will be held virtually on Thursday evenings, allowing participants from communities across New York State to learn together.

“Cornell Climate Stewards gives volunteers the opportunity to learn about climate science while becoming part of the solution in their own communities,” organizers said. “Whether working with local government or developing an independent project, Climate Stewards can make a meaningful difference.”
